Chris Killen and added a second goal for New Zealand in the 42 minute before Gilardino put the Italians in 48 minutes.
New Zealand and returned to provide a view across Kälin's third-minute penalty, but Vincenzo Iaquinta 57, drawn to New Zealand after 11 minutes.
Iaquinta scored the second goal of the meeting to give Italy victory in 73 minutes.
